چکیده

Large advances in the development of catalytic materials were made with the synthesis of zeolites, which are porous crystalline materials that can be used as catalysts, catalyst supports, sorbents and ion exchangers. Zeolite structures consist of T-atoms tetrahedrally coordinated to oxygen atoms, where T can be AI, Si, or any other element capable of isomorphous substitution for Si. The unavailability of good quality, large single crystals makes the powder diffraction technique essential. Originally the powder diffraction patterns of these materials were used as fingerprints, but on careful analysis and with improved diffraction techniques a wealth of information may be derived from these data. The availability of rotating anode and synchrotron X-ray and neutron sources and the application of the Rietveld refinement method results in considerable improvement in the quality of structural information that can be derived. Further, the application of solid-state NMR techniques in conjunction with the X-ray diffraction method greatly increases the short-range-order information obtainable from these systems.

A solid-state NMR method for solution of zeolite crystal structures.

Since zeolites are notoriously difficult to prepare as large single crystals, structure determination usually relies on powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). However, structure solution (i.e., deriving an initial structural model) directly from powder XRD data is often very difficult due to the diffraction phase problem and the high degree of overlap between the individual reflections, particularly f...

Combining the Advantages of Powder X‐ray Diffraction and NMR Crystallography in Structure Determination of the Pharmaceutical Material Cimetidine Hydrochloride

We report the crystal structure of the anhydrous phase of cimetidine hydrochloride, determined directly from powder X-ray diffraction data. The material was prepared by dehydration of the readily obtained monohydrate form of cimetidine hydrochloride, the only form for which a crystal structure has previously been reported. As such, solid-state dehydration processes typically yield the product p...

Exploiting the Synergy of Powder X-ray Diffraction and Solid-State NMR Spectroscopy in Structure Determination of Organic Molecular Solids

We report a strategy for structure determination of organic materials in which complete solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectral data is utilized within the context of structure determination from powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) data. Following determination of the crystal structure from powder XRD data, first-principles density functional theory-based techniques within the GIPAW ap...

Bismuth Pyromangenate: Hydrothermal and Solid State Synthesis, Characterization and Optical Properties

Bi2Mn2O7 nano-powders were synthesized via a stoichiometric 1:1 Bi:Mn molar ratio hydrothermal method at 180 °C for 48 h in a 1M NaOH aqueous solution; and solid state method, using Bi(NO3)3.5H2O and MnO2 as raw materials. The synthesized materials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) technique. Also, the rietveld analysis was done in FullProf in profile matching mode. It was f...

Preparation and application of HMCM-22 zeolite as an efficient solid acid catalyst for the synthesis of acetals

HMCM-22 with a Si:Al molar ratio of 15:1 has been shown to effectively catalyze the synthesis of acetals with 100% selectivity by the reaction of aldehydes with methanol under reflux conditions. Platelet HMCM-22 particles were prepared by the static strategy and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), BET tech...
